Diamond Academy teams up with the Charles Burrell Centre to create an exciting food technology programme.

With a commitment to providing high-quality food technology lessons to our primary school pupils, an exciting partnership has formed between our primary school, Diamond Academy and the Charles Burrell Centre. Together they have created a well-rounded food technology curriculum that provides children with an important understanding of nutrition while also giving them the opportunity to take part in practical lessons too.

From preparing the ingredients to washing up at the end of the session, pupils take part in all the aspects involved in preparing a meal in order to help them gain valuable life skills. They learn about seasonality, balanced eating and the variety of world cuisine, all while having something delicious to taste for themselves at the end. Their experience is enhanced even further, with pupils sitting down to eat their creations in the café adjacent.

Equipped with everything the pupils could possibly need, the kitchen at the Charles Burrell Centre is home to a number of ovens and hobs situated across a selection of stations which allow our students to prepare and cook food in small groups. The demonstration station is a wonderful asset to the kitchen, allowing Tracey to model all the different aspects of the cooking process to our pupils. This includes showing them how to use kitchen equipment correctly, helping the children to build independence and practise these skills over a sequence of lessons.

All of these fantastic lessons have been led by Tracy Terry who has a wealth of experience working in schools and within the community and we are delighted to be able to provide our primary pupils with these wonderful opportunities through such a brilliant partnership. Together it is a real recipe for success!
