Transfer to Junior School
Junior school applications for September 2024 closed on the 15th January 2024. If you applied, the Local Authority will offer you a school place on the 16th April 2024 (National Offer Day).
Late applications:
If your child is due to transfer to junior school in September 2024 and you haven’t applied, you can make a late application by completing a paper application form. Request a paper application form by using the Local Authority general enquiry form.
When children transfer to junior school:
Junior schools are for 7 to 11 year olds (school Years 3 to 6). Your child is due to transfer to junior school when they are in their last year (Year 2) at an infant school.
You need to apply for a junior school place for September 2024 if
- your child currently goes to an infant school and
- they were born between 1st September 2016 and 31st August 2017
Children in Year 2 at a primary school are not ‘due to transfer’ to a junior school. However, you can still apply for transfer to junior school if your child is in Year 2 at a primary school. Your application will be given lower priority than applications from children at infant schools.
When you get your school offer:
If you applied for transfer to junior school for September 2024, the Local Authority will offer you a school place on the 16th April 2024 (National Offer Day).
- If you applied online, you will be able to see the offer in your admissions account online from 8.30am on the 16th April 2024. The Local Authority will also send you the offer by email.
- If you completed a paper application form, the Local Authority will send your school offer by post. The Local Authority send offer letters by 2nd class post on the 16th April 2024.
The Local Authority will inform the Principal of the school that your child has a place. The school will contact you with further information.
The first day of Autumn term is Thursday 5th September 2024.
Waiting lists
If your child is not offered a place, their name will be added to a waiting list for the school in case a place becomes available. Waiting lists are maintained for oversubscribed schools until the 31st December 2024.
